Steinhatchee Falls

Are you looking for a little whitewater action? Steinhatchee Falls is a great place to try out your paddling skills as the river cascades over a limestone outcropping, forming a 1 to 3 foot drop depending upon water levels. We provide a shuttle service and can drop you off at Steinhatchee Falls where you can leisurely launch, play in some Florida "whitewater" and head downstream to explore the many streams and bayous which join Steinhatchee River.

Animals are abundant. On this trip you may see river otter, deer and multitudes of wading birds such as Great Blue Heron, Ibis, Egrets and more. This trip is 6 to 7 miles in length and will take you about 3 hours to return to River Haven Marina from the Falls. Call us at (352) 498-0709 to schedule a shuttle and rental.

Big Bend Saltwater Paddling Trail

The historic Big Bend Saltwater Paddling Trail was Florida's first legislatively designated water trail. This 105-mile trail starts on the Aucilla River and finishes in the town of Suwannee. That puts Steinhatchee about 2/3rds of the way into the trip and makes River Haven Marina & Motel a great option to camping or a place to resupply during your trip.

For most paddlers, a sea kayak is the best choice for the saltwater trail. While they can carry a lot of gear, canoes are not well suited for the wind and waves that you'll encounter along the trip. We also recommend using a plastic / polyethylene kayak since you'll encounter shallow water with numerous oyster bars.

The Big Bend Saltwater Paddling Trail is open from September 1st through June 30th. For those making the entire trip there are seven designated primitive campsites spaced 10 to 14 miles apart. Camping requires a permit.

Big Bend Saltwater Paddling Trail Online Reservations

We run kayak shuttles for the Big Bend Saltwater Paddling Trail. We can pick up your party (up to six people) with your kayaks and all gear and drop you off at your desired location along the paddling trail. We charge by the mile so the cost is the same for one person or six. Call us at (352) 498-0709 for prices.

Town of Steinhatchee

Do you want to explore Steinhatchee by kayak or perhaps do a little near shore fishing? Try an easy trip downriver from the marina to the open Gulf; it's about two miles to Deadman Bay from our location. Since we're so close to the Gulf, the river is tidally influenced so you'll want to time your trip so you can come back on an incoming tide. Along the way you'll be able to follow the river as it meanders through the town of Steinhatchee and see what makes our small Florida community very special.
